The True Love Story of
Kristin Johnson
and Michael Salvatore
By Elizabeth Regan
Chapter Three: About 20 minutes into the movie, Mike began to pay an inordinate amount of attention to Kristin’s hand as it lay on the armrest. Drawn as he was into the movie’s unfolding plot, he couldn’t help but think about the fact that Kristin was sitting there next to him. She looked beautiful, her hair falling in a straight line past her shoulders. She gazed out from under long, soft lashes as she watched the movie with intense eyes. He sneaked another sideways glance at her hand. Should I go in? He focused back on the screen. Yeah, I should. He waited a few beats and tried to be casual as he slid his hand over hers and laced their fingers together…
Chapter Six: Mike was becoming a fixture in Kristin’s life. Part of her knew they were entering dangerous territory. She couldn’t let herself dive in blindly.
“Are you still thinking of moving to Arizona?” she asked.
“Whoa, where did that come from?” Mike asked, his face a blend of confusion and amusement.
“It’s just that all this seems too good to be true. You know how I am. I’m, like, constantly waiting for something bad to happen.”
“You’re, like, way too negative,” he said, imitating her. “Why can’t you just accept the fact that we’ve got a good thing going here?” He pulled her back against his chest. “I’m not going to Arizona. I want to stay here with you.”
“Why?” Kristin needed to know for sure that what he was saying was true. “How do I know you mean it?”
“Because I love you”…
Chapter Nine: Kristin had waited for years to make her way up to the 52nd floor of the Prudential Center, where the well-know Top of the Hub restaurant served cocktails, elegant entrees and views that were almost unanimously heralded as spectacular. A bucket of Korbel Brut champagne was perched next to their table. POP! Kristin jumped. She looked from Mike to the waiter and back again, her eyes catching only momentarily on the view that one could simply not overlook.
Kristin smiled, her heart beginning to beat faster.
“I love you,” Mike said. “I want to spend my life with you. I’ve known it since our first date.”
When he got up from his seat, she let out an audible gasp. When he reached into his pocket, she felt a tightening in her chest that was unlike any feeling she had ever experienced. Then he was on his knee in front of her, and she was speechless...
“Kristin, will you marry me?”…
